Move-In Day

Move-In Day

Well here we are again - another year another All-State! On the beautiful campus of Campbell University, the All-State family has come together once again for another music-filled and life changing week. The site of check-in at the Fine Arts Building was one of incredible joy, numerous hugs, laughs, and instant rekindling of friendships.

Once everyone was settled comfortably into the superb apartments on campus, we headed to dinner for some food and fellowship and it was basically just one great big family reunion! And as always, the first years were surprised at dinner by the traditional All-State rendition of the Doxology in 100 part harmony. As a former All-Stater, I will never forget the first time I heard this and have treasured singing it before every meal at All-State since then - even in food courts at the mall, on top of mountains, and everywhere in-between!

After filling up the tummies, it was time to fill up our hearts with music, so on to the choir room we went! This year 89 of my favorite high schoolers are joining their voices under the excellent direction of Dr. Nana Wolfe-Hill -Associate Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor at Wingate University.

She taught the All-Staters many lessons about singing tall and pure vowels using the "Bella Donna" choral warmup. The All-Staters were a little hesitant at first, but after awhile, they were singing it like seasoned pros!

Many of her lessons involved movement and doing actions that matched the voice. I know it was only the first day, but they were really sounding good! But although learning 12 pieces in 3 days is hard work, that doesn't mean you can't have fun too!

All this made for a great move-in day here at Campbell - but there is much more to come in the week ahead! I had a little computer trouble last night, so sorry the update is coming in a little late. But all is good now so stay tuned for more videos and updates throughout the week!

Your Faithful All-State Blogger,

Carter
